I. There should be no inappropriate names or any names suggesting drugs, alcohol, etc.
II. Please try and make your character not seem so two dimensional. No one wants a Mary Sue.
III. Your character's history must be realistic. You can't just make up a story with some tragic event with no reason behind it and such.
IV. Your character's ability must be balanced AND match the race. For example, a human could not fly, but a fairy could. Also, get creative with your abilities! Some abilities are fine, such as flight or night vision, but we don't want to be seeing those abilities over and over again. So why not create a unique ability? If this is an idea you and you alone came up with, you can put a lock on your ability, allowing no one to copy it. To do this, at the end of your ability's description, say that it's either locked, or that no one can copy it, and it will be added to the list of locked abilities. An ability cannot give you immortality, incapability of being injured, or basically anything that would make you OP.
V. There isn't a list for races. However, there are some restrictions I must put on. With things such as gods and goddesses, I have to say that you can only be half god or half goddess, making you either a demigod or a demigoddess. Being full demon or full devil is fine, so long as you didn't descend from anyone such as Satan. Remember that your race does nothing special without an ability. Any race without an ability is functionally the same.
